Hello lovely people, I come to you today from a very rainy Welsh capital today. There are rumours of a storm knocking about the place and so I sit on the floor of my lounge waiting on a thunderstorm that is apparently due to start any minute now- c’mon Met Office, please pull through on this one.
I also come to you not really having a clue what to write today. My mind is brimming with ideas, as it always is. But none of those ideas feel right to pursue today.
Recently, I’ve been feeling pretty tired. Tomorrow I’ll be heading off on retreat for the weekend and I cannot wait because it’s definitely needed.
So today, instead of some inner monologue being written down, or a thought piece on the state of the world, or any of the other things that I love getting on my soapbox about on here, I’d like to share a few songs with you that bring joy and colour into my life when it feels a little bit dark and dreary.
Sharing music with my nearest and dearest is definitely an unofficial love language for me. So I’m sharing these with you as a token of my gratitude and love for you being here and reading my words week in, week out.
I also love finding new music and always welcome music suggestions so if you feel like sharing please do by popping a comment on this post.
Jeremy Loops - This Town Ft. Lady Black Mambazo
This is such a beautiful colourful and upbeat song that fuses together the tones found in South African tribal choirs with mainstream pop music. I love it so much and it gives me goosebumps to listen to. Also makes me slightly homesick for Zambia and the church choir that my grandma goes to. I love African music so much and it makes up the very eclectic music that I grew up listening to with my parents at home.
Josiah and the Bonnevilles - Anti Hero (Country Version)
I am a sucker for a harmonica and I love the take on this Taylor Swift song. It gives it a different vibe and feel to Taylor’s Version. It gives me mellow, low light and cosy warm drinks vibes.
Maisie Peters - The Band & I
This song makes me feel like my dreams are possible and it reminds me of all of the good times that I’ve had with loved ones where we’ve laughed, cried, hugged, acted silly- all the things. There are so many people that I’m missing at the moment and so many moments that I wish I could relive. This song gives me a warm feeling but also gives me sickly sweet nostalgia that reduces me to tears. But all of that aside, it’s gorgeous and is a beautiful story of living life and experiencing it with the people you care about.
Jordan Stephens - Big Bad Mood (feat Miraa May)
This song is a bop. I love it so much! There’s a line towards the end of this song that always reminds me of the corruption of the current systems that are playing out in our society. They’re not working! But that aside, it’s just a bloody good song. It’s not my usual genre, or at least it wasn’t when I first listened to it but it’s impossible for me to listen to it without dancing around my home and singing along.
Hanson - MMMBop
I was obsessed with this song as a kid and I’m still obsessed with it now. It always perks me up. Always makes me happy. It will always bring me joy. Always always always!
I hope you and yours are swell. Let me know what songs are your go to when you need a bit of a pick me up!
Meanwhile, I’m still waiting on this thunderstorm.
All my love,
Ness xoxo
