Hey loves, it’s NaNoWriMo this month which mean I’m deep into getting novel writing done!
So I bring to you today some poetry.
I know I’ve said this before but I seem to find it much easier to write poetry when I’m writing longer form things elsewhere.
This month I’m just going to go with the flow and see what feels right to write as I concentrate on my novel. I envision this being quite a few poems but we will see!
This one is called Spinning Plates.
Hope you enjoy x
Spinning Plates
I had this group of spinning plates
They were spinning all in a line
I went back and forth and back and forth
and managed them just fine
But one fine day I spot a crack
It happened all a sudden
I thought I could wear all the hats
and keep my worries hidden
But hindsight is a lovely thing
My plans I thought, sustainable
But as long as I was “just afloat”
My plans stayed unobtainable
I tried to cover the crack with tape
And paint it a pretty colour
But as more plates started to crack
I had to run for cover
For there are seasons to let go
and seasons to be persistent
But as this is no skill of mine
I found myself, resistant
Then finally, I crawled back out
the crockery all shattered
The recklessness of all I’d lost
Led me to things that mattered
So now my plates are firmly secured
They sit solidly on the table
And I am rested in my soul
And know that I am able
Spinning plates, all on a stick
is not worthy of a medallion
Our busy-ness is an early grave
that’s worthy of a rebellion
So find the things that bring you joy
without worrying about the turn out.
For life is too short to cling to things
that set you up for burn out.

LOVE this! Thank you so much Nessa. Wise words indeed!
Love this! Very clear imagery - I like that the plates are simply on the table at the end! 🥰
